Lost In Oz Added to Oz Project's Book List

Be sure to check out the site, here's what the creator, Blair Frodelius, had to say on the first page of the site.

It began as a question. How many books about Oz are out there? Since the advent of the internet, it seemed reasonable that I would be able to find this information easily enough. Spending several hours searching for a simple list of the books with the word Oz in the title gave me a lot of information, but it was scattered over dozens of websites. I was amazed that there was no one definitive source of bibliographical information available.

What I have attempted to do here, is to compile a list all of the books written by L. Frank Baum, and then all of the books associated with him in some way. Oz and non-Oz books, books by fans, books about the life of Baum, books about the MGM movie, books based on philosophies from the books, and so on...

No list of this kind could ever be entirely complete, but I have spent the better part of a year compiling this information and I feel it is a worthy start. I encourage anyone out there to send me information on books I am unaware of, and any photographs I may not have. Of course corrections are very welcome. My hope is that this will be a source for research and study, as well as a tribute to the genius of L. Frank Baum.

Ozzily yours,
Blair Frodelius

Site Upgrade

The site got a little brighter today with the edition of the new "enter" page. It's sleek white style really keeps you awake!

The back cover art also got a little makeover. It now shows much more of the surrounding area and is mostly sepia tone, minus the yellow brick road. The text also got a little fancier on the back.

The header on the main website also got a little boost with the edition of more colorful text!

ABOUT AUTHOR
Joshua Patrick Dudley, 21, was born and raised in Hooksett, New Hampshire. Son of Laurel Levesque and Michael Dudley and brother to Tamara, Meghan and Caitlin Dudley, Joshua has always been exposed to the arts.

His fascination and love for the stories of Oz started when he was just two years old; he and his mother shared his first viewing of the MGM classic, "The Wizard of Oz." From that point on Joshua was obsessed with the magical land and its inhabitants.

By the time he was in his teens he'd found another love; the stage. After performing in over sixty community theatre productions (four of which were Oz themed shows), he decided to move to New York City and go to school for musical theater.

Upon his return, the family was struck with a great loss. His grandmother on his mother's side, Lorraine T. Lamphere had passed away. Someday, he decided, he would find a way to forever commemorate his grandmother. Writing his first book was a perfect opportunity.

"My journey through Oz (also known as my life) has never been made easy. Luckily for me, I have the love and support of the best people in the world, my family and friends. There truly is no place like home."

-- Joshua Patrick Dudley, 2006

1. What motivated you to write this book? How long have you been working on it?

I was motivated to write the book as I discovered things in life aren't always what they seem. I wondered what would happen if I had a chance to start all over again in a new place. Would I want to stay and make it work? Or would I want to hurry home? I also wanted to address a few issues, without causing a major uproar. I wanted to address racial discrimination, stereotypes, and politics in a way that anyone could read and understand.

I worked on the book for about three months total, with a few brief pauses in the middle.

2. Is the book geared to a particular type of reader? What do you hope readers will take from the book?

The book is geared toward anyone. Children, Teenagers, Parents, Grandparents, and all their dogs will enjoy it and get something from it. What I hope they get from it is a sense of who they are. When they read the story, I want them to ask themselves "Would I do that or would I try it this way?" I want to stimulate identity growth and knowledge in all my readers.

3. Name some of your favorite books and authors.

I love the Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling. Wicked by Gregory Maguire is also a good read. My favorite author currently is Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and my favorite author of all time is L. Frank Baum, who, of course, wrote the original Oz stories.

4. If you have to give an aspiring author three bits of advice, what would they be?
Work through it. If you have to, act out the scene that you are writing in the room that you are in. Always be creative.
